March Mom of the Month: Katie Townsend

Why did you start doing FIT4MOM classes?

  • I started ‘casually’ doing Stroller Strides last winter while on maternity leave after my 2nd daughter was born to get a jump start on my fitness. Even after only doing 1-2 sessions a week for a month or so, I was able to run the St Patrick’s Day Dash and I was pretty certain that I wouldn’t have been able to run the entire 5k if it wasn’t for Stroller Strides. Sadly, once I returned to work and was still dealing with sleep deprivation, I just didn’t have it within me to find time for working out. The wake-up call of my daughter turning 1 (and me 40!) was the catalyst to do Body Back in January. I finally figured out how to build my fitness into my schedule and the feeling (both physically and mentally) is so empowering.

What classes do you currently attend and why do you love them?

Body Back at 5am, baby!!! Getting reacquainted with your core first thing in the morning is the best way to start a day!

What's your favorite exercise and why?

My goal is to some day love mountain climbers (!@#$%^&*) but for now it is anything with that involves a squat or working my shoulders.

What's one thing you would go back and tell yourself as a new mom?

It’s okay to give yourself and your body breaks – you have gone through so much! But at some point if you want your ‘body back’ you have to make your fitness and well-being a priority. Your family will benefit.
