March Mom of the Month: MARINA PITA

Meet our glowing Mama-to-be and Fit4Baby rockstar, Marina Pita!


Tell us about yourself and your family.

I have a pretty multicultural family! My family is from Argentina so I was raised at home speaking only in Spanish and traveling to Buenos Aires every year to visit all of my relatives. My husband, on the other hand, is from the east midlands of England. We met on the number 70 Metro bus on his first day in the U.S. when he moved here to study psychology. He was lost so I showed him around and we have been together ever since. We are so excited to be having our first child together and we anticipate there will be lots of travel to visit family in the future!

What surprised you the most once you became pregnant?

One thing that really surprised me was that I wasn't expecting to be so tired in the first trimester. At about 8:30pm or 9pm my eyes would shut, like a light switch being turned off, and I would be out for the rest of the night. I also didn't think I would be so emotional but everything made me cry, even the KUOW pledge drive!

Why did you join FIT4MOM? Why do you love it?

I really wanted to join a prenatal exercise group but I didn't know where to go. Then one day on my bus ride to work I looked out the window and saw the West Seattle FIT4MOM studio. I did a little research and realized they had FIT4BABY classes, just what I was looking for! I have been going to class since week 11 or so. I absolutely LOVE the class. It's really powerful to be in there with all these other lovely mamas and getting the chance to connect and chat with them in between exercises.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? If you didn't have any obstacles, what dream would you pursue?

This is a tough question.. I would love to have a crystal ball! I hope to have a second child to accompany this first one and I hope to be working in a position I love. I was so stressed as a public school teacher and although I loved working with the kids and families the pressure of the system itself was too much. I promised myself I would never work another job that made my body hurt physically and emotionally from the stress, and I'm sticking to that promise.

What is your favorite go to piece of prenatal gear (clothing, pillow, water bottle, massage etc?)

I love my elastic waist jeans. I don't think I ever want to wear regular pants again!

Any advice for new moms-to-be?

I suppose I would say to keep doing all the things you love to do but listen to your body when you need to rest or put your feet up. And ask for help when you need it. People are so eager to support you however they can, even in simple ways like getting things off of a high shelf or picking up things on the floor for you so you don't have to bend over!
