M O N T H O F M A M A : Fit4Baby Spotlight Mama

Meet one of our glowing Mamas-to-be, Tana Avellar!

Tell us about yourself and your family.

My husband and I are Washington natives - he grew up in the small town of Leavenworth and I lived in Olympia. We've been Seattle residents for nearly 11 years and have watched the city go through much change. Despite all its progress, we love this city and all it has to offer. I work as Project Manager in HR during the week and also have been serving in the Washington Army National Guard for nearly 19 years. My husband is an IT guru for a video ad agency in Seattle. When not working or wearing combat boots, I love to go running, skiing, mountain and road biking or partake in any other outdoor adventures.

What surprised you the most once you became pregnant?

I am most surprised how my disposition and outlook on priorities have changed. I find myself more emotionally attached to this little human being growing inside me more than I ever thought possible. I can't wait to meet this special little girl that is a part of my husband and me.

Why did you join FIT4MOM? Why do you love it?

FIT4MOM came into my life because of my husband. He found the studio sign while in the area and made the comment, "I'm not exactly sure but giving birth seems like an athletic event. Perhaps you should check out this class - you may really like it." After attending one class I was hooked. It's an amazing network of women who can share pregnancy experiences and participate in healthy exercise all in the name of loving yourself and little one that's coming into the world.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? If you didn't have any obstacles, what dream would you pursue?

I hope to be loving and experiencing all life has to offer and perhaps add one more additional little one to become a family of 4.

If it were possible, I dream of taking time away for a year and travelling the world. I want to experience different places and a variety of people . I equally want to be able to share this experience with my little girl when she's old enough.

What is your favorite go to piece of prenatal gear (clothing, pillow, water bottle, massage etc?)

As a first time mom, this prenatal gear has been a new discovery for me along the way. I have to say my favorite go-to item right now is my Snoogle pillow in my bed. My hips and neck feel so much better supported!

Any advice for new moms-to-be?

I am experiencing everything for the first time but I found the best piece of advice I can offer is be kind to yourself both physically and emotionally. Know it's ok to be anxious and not feel like pregnancy is the greatest adventure; it can be hard at times and that's perfectly fine. I also would say to stay as active as you can. I found when I exercise or even go for a walk, I feel so much better physically and mentally.
