Behind the FIT4MOM Hat

We'd like to introduce you to one of the newer faces on our Body Back instructor team, Phoebe Ingraham!

Body Back Instructor

I am originally from a small town in Upstate New York, a rural agriculture community where it was said there were more cows than people. I have lived in Seattle for more than 17 years, and always here in West Seattle! Fun fact, my husband and I are high school sweethearts and I've known him since I was 10. We have two highly energetic and precocious sons who keep us on our toes (hence needing to be fit!).

Professionally, I am still trying figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Recently I was lucky enough to choose to quit my job to focus on what my next adventure should be. Formerly I was the business manager for a couple of small businesses and have previously worked in a law firm too. (My kids have been way more challenging debaters than any of the attorneys I have worked with...) I am in the process of studying for my human resources professional certification exam and hope to find a role as an internal HR business partner or as a consultant focused on helping businesses optimize their organizational performance (kinda like what I do when I'm instructing/coaching a BB session). I do a lot of volunteering: I provide consulting services to 501 Commons, I am President of the Admiral Cooperative Preschool board where my son(s) attend, and I am founding board member of the Urban Homestead Foundation which is trying to raise funds to purchase a vacant piece of property near Genesee Hill Elementary School. (To learn more check out the website: www.urbanhomesteadfoundation.org or ask me how you can get involved!)

I was introduced to FIT4MOM West Seattle through a couple of friends who had done Body Back and convinced me to try it. Before kids, I was super active. I enjoyed Salsa dancing, biking, swimming, and begrudgingly, running. I had completed several triathlons and had intended to get back to it after my first son was born but then I suffered a knee injury. (It's a great story, actually, involving a wedding in Italy and some enthusiastic celebratory dancing.) After having surgery and and doing rehab, I tried to get back to a comfortable level of activity, but I had a hard time motivating myself. Then after my second son was born, I knew it was time to figure out how to find that strong and powerful me again. Enter Body Back. That was more than 2.5 years ago and I am so glad that I took that chance to check it out. I have found the most amazing community of women, and have created deep friendships among these women that I sweat with. I have gotten back to my competitive self training for and completing Tri's and 5Ks, and GULP signing up for the Big Climb and Ragnar for 2017. I am stronger and healthier than ever.

My vices are ice cream and bourbon (not typically together). Oh, heck, the truth is I'm a food junkie and would eat just about anything, so that's where I have to work the hardest - managing what I put in my body. The best food related tip I learned from BB is to not eat after dinner time. And everything in moderation.

I am so privileged to be able to share my passion for this community and the benefits of the BB program with the amazing Mamas of West Seattle.
