Tell us about yourself and your family. We are an energetic and active family of four! Spencer (4), Henley (3 mos), my incredible Husband Mark, and I live in the Alaska Junction with our loving goldendoodle, Thomas. Having an infant hasn’t slowed us down much as we still enjoy sailing, traveling, and exploring wonderful West Seattle! When I’m not on maternity leave (which I am LOVING), I am an HR Manager for a software startup downtown Seattle and a volunteer with CHEER Seattle, Seattle’s adult cheerleaders for charity.
What surprised you the most once you became a mom? As a new mom, I quickly realized that you could still be superwoman on minimal sleep! After giving birth to our firstborn, Spencer, I was shocked how our world was turned upside down in a crazy beautiful way. It’s by far the most challenging and rewarding job there is.
Why did you join FIT4MOM? Why do you love it? When my firstborn arrived, I had a built in group from a prenatal yoga class I attended. Fast forward a few years and when I was pregnant with my 2nd, I didn’t have the same local village, as we are fairly new to West Seattle and know from experience that this really can positively impact your postpartum recovery period mentally and physically. I was already very familiar with FIT4MOM and was invited to a free class where ICE CREAM was offered. I was pregnant, so I’m sure you can guess the rest of the story. Pregnant Sara + Ice cream = bliss. In all seriousness, I loved the instant camaraderie I had with the other mamas and the instructors are all extremely knowledgeable and caring while pushing you to be your best. Both FIT4BABY and Stroller Strides have made working out a social, fun event rather than a chore! It truly takes a village and I’ve found mine.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? If you didn't have any obstacles, what dream would you pursue? In the past 5 years, I’ve had two babies, worked for two startups, and sold and purchased a home. It’s been a wonderful, wild ride and I’m excited to see where the next 5 years takes us. Visualizing where I see myself in 5 years, I expect that my passion of fitness will play a major role in success and hope to play an executive role whether it be my own business or partnered with others.
If I had no obstacles, my dream would be to constantly travel the world, but have a few home bases in Florida, British Columbia, and Seattle to spend more time with family and friends.
What is your favorite go to piece of baby gear? The dust buster! Ha! Kidding, but not really. I do threaten to start buying this for all my expectant mama friends. The sport stroller would be my favorite, as it’s allowed me to stay active, get outside and explore, and most importantly, attend Stroller Strides!
Any advice for new moms? 1) Don’t lose yourself. It can be hard to do, but making time for YOU will help you stay happy, positive, and be the best mama you can be. 2) Find your tribe. Having some likeminded moms around you will present opportunities for empathy, fun, and good ole chit-chat! It warms the soul to leave a coffee date with a smile.
