Tell us about yourself and your family.
My husband and I are both from Colorado, which is where we met. My husband’s name is Sean and he’s a web developer. We’ve been married for almost three years. We got married on Kauai in a small intimate ceremony on the beach officiated by my step-father. Our daughter, Olive, is 16 months and is the sunshine of our lives. She is funny, smart, strong, active and always keeping us on our toes. My sister, Heidi, lives here in West Seattle with her husband and 4-year-old son. The rest of our family lives in Colorado.
What surprised you the most once you became a mom?
Honestly, breastfeeding surprised me the most. I had a really difficult time with breastfeeding and went to the lactation consultants at Swedish several times in tears. It’s just not instinctual, or at least it wasn’t instinctual for me. Although we had a very difficult time for months, I continued to breastfeed until Olive was 11 months. Another surprise is how you can function on such little sleep when you have a newborn. It’s crazy!
Why did you join FIT4MOM? Why do you love it?
I joined FIT4MOM because I thought it would kill many birds with one stone. I wanted to start exercising regularly (and lose the baby-chub), I wanted to meet more stay-at-home moms, and I wanted Olive to have more opportunity to meet other kiddos her age. Win win!! It has been great! I’ve only been part of the FIT4MOM family for a few weeks, but I already see and feel the results in my body. I love the other moms I have met and Olive loves to run around with the other kiddos after our work out.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? If you didn't have any obstacles, what dream would you pursue?
In 5 years, I see myself with at least one more kiddo. I’d love to start working again, but only part-time. Before deciding to stay home, I was a special education teacher. I’d love to get back into special education in some capacity. Hopefully, birth-to-three, early intervention so I can get my baby fix :) If I didn’t have any obstacles, I’d move to Hawaii, become a surfer and teach yoga on the beach. Wait, that’s where I want to be in 5 years! :)
What is your favorite go to piece of baby gear?
My favorite go-to baby gear is definitely our jogger stroller. I don’t leave home without it. That, and plenty of snacks.
Any advice for new moms?
I would tell new moms to just take everything as it comes. You can’t control everything and you’ll drive yourself crazy trying. Don’t sweat the small stuff and just enjoy your baby. They’re only going to be that age once.
