Meet one of our newer Striders, Maryana and her precious new babe, Levi!
Tell us about yourself and your family.
My husband David and I originally met in college while working at the same restaurant. (Cucina, Cucina) but didn't get together until our paths crossed four years later at our mutual friends' baby shower. We recently moved back to West Seattle in 2015 and welcomed our first born, Levi, in February of this year. I work full-time as a recruiting manager for Slalom consulting and David works in marketing for Redfin. We are big Seattle sports fans (though Levi will have to choose a side during Apple Cup) love to get away on the weekends and travel, and enjoy spending time with family and friends. Our newest hobby is discovering family friendly breweries around Seattle.
What surprised you the most once you became a mom?
Sleep. I thought I knew what a bad night of sleep looked like, but man, I had no idea. I would like to go back to my pre-motherood self and apologize to every mom I ever uttered the words "i'm tired" or "i got zero sleep last night" to. In the same breath, I am astonished at what we as moms are able to tackle and accomplish on a daily basis with sometimes zero of it.
Why did you join FIT4MOM? Why do you love it?
A couple of colleagues recommended I join because they thought I'd enjoy meeting other moms and maintaining the people interaction I was accustomed to in my job. I started Stroller Strides when Levi was 6 weeks old and I absolutely fell in love. The community of women I get to be around is truly amazing and just good for the soul. Working on my fitness and seeing myself get stronger and stronger is an added bonus. :)
Where do you see yourself in 5 years? If you didn't have any obstacles, what dream would you pursue?
In 5 years, I see us adding one more little one to our family. I would also like to play a bigger role and make an impact in our community. If I didn't have any obstacles, I would love to one day start my own business and travel six months to a year at a time, jumping from city to city all around the world.
What is your favorite go to piece of baby gear?
Our Rock N' Play and Ergo Carrier.
Any advice for new moms?
Motherhood is beautiful and rewarding but is also so challenging and can be so lonely. My advice is to put yourself out there. I know- easier said than done. But whether it's FIT4MOM, PEPS, or any other mom's group, there is a whole village of moms out there ready to offer support. No mom should have to do this alone and the hardest part is showing up. In addition, get up and get out. Whether it's a date with your significant other, a glass of wine with a friend, or a trip to the store, do it. Call me, I'll join you!
